Liverpool are set to make Arne Slot’s squad stronger in the summer transfer window by signing Marc Guehi, according to a report.

The Mirror has reported that Liverpool are set to sign Guehi from Premier League rivals Crystal Palace.

Newcastle United are also interested in the England international central defender, but they are aware that Liverpool are his “preferred destination”.

The report has revealed that “a deal to take Guehi to Anfield is expected to be struck in the summer”.

However, it is not set in stone, with The Mirror added that Chelsea are still interested in a summer deal for the 24-year-old centre-back they sold to Palace in 2021.

There could also be late interest from Premier League rivals Manchester City, Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur, who have been tracking the defender and keeping tabs on his performances for Palace this season.

Liverpool are “in pole position for Guehi, whose contract expires in June 2026”, according to The Mirror.

Guehi is one of the best central defenders in the Premier League who is ready to move to a bigger club.

The centre-back has progressed well over the years and has established himself as a regular in the England squad.

Guehi has been praised by his peers, with his England international team-mate and Aston Villa star Ezri Konsa telling the BBC in July 2024: “He is so mature for his age and he strolls around like an uncle. We have been really impressed by his performances. They have been outstanding.”

Virgil van Dijk is out of contract at Liverpool this summer, and if the Dutchman leaves, then the Merseyside outfit will need a replacement.

Even if Van Dijk stays, Liverpool, who want to sign former Manchester City striker Julian Alvarez, need to find a younger centre-back who can eventually replace the former Celtic star and play alongside Ibrahima Konate.
