FLW brings you the latest news surrounding the Sky Blues.
Coventry City will be preparing for another Championship season after suffering heartbreak in the play-offs.
The Sky Blues were narrowly beaten by Sunderland despite arguably being the better team over the two legs, as Dan Ballard’s last-minute winner in extra time brought despair to the travelling Sky Blue army.
It means a second successive campaign where Coventry have been beaten in the play-offs, but they will be hopeful that one of these seasons will be their year after making positive strides in Frank Lampard’s opening term.
As another summer rolls around, it’s set to be a period of change with players both arriving and exiting the CBS Arena.
With this in mind, FLW brings you the latest news from the CBS Arena.
Coventry City defender Kaine Kesler-Hayden has outlined two defining reasons for joining Coventry City this summer.
The 22-year-old has linked up at the CBS Arena on a four-year deal from Aston Villa after having a breakthrough second tier term last season with Preston North End.
Speaking to Coventry’s official website, Kesler-Hayden highlighted the project under Frank Lampard and the location of the club as the two big factors for signing on the dotted line.
Kesler-Hayden said: “There was a lot of things that went into it. I saw last season how much of a good team Coventry City are and how unlucky they were not to make it into the Premier League, so hopefully we can have another go at it this season.
“Also, it is very local to me, which is perfect, I don’t have to travel too far, so now I just can’t wait to get started.”
He added: “I’ve spoken with the Gaffer. He was a big part of why I signed. I believe in the project, and he showed me some videos and analysis of how I can fit into the team and, for me, that made it seem like the perfect place for me to come.”
Premier League side Fulham have once again been linked with a move for Coventry City’s Milan van Ewijk.
As per Sky Sports’ transfer centre live blog (30th June 12:52pm) the Cottagers have explored the conditions of a deal for the 24-year-old.
Right-back is believed to be a priority position for Fulham to add to this summer, despite Kenny Tete recently ending speculation by signing a new deal at the club.
Fulham have also believed to have looked into deals for Kyle Walker-Peters and Ben Johnson.
It will be interesting to see as the summer progresses whether the Dutchman moves on, particularly given Kesler-Hayden has added competition to the defensive ranks.
USA international manager Mauricio Pochettino has confirmed that Haji Wright has suffered an Achilles injury, ruling him out of the rest of the Concacaf Cup.
Wright has been a part of Pochettino’s squad in the lead up to the competition, but only featured for 18 minutes in their opening fixture against Trinidad & Tobago.
But now his tournament has ended prematurely, with the player returning to Coventry to begin his rehab process.
Pochettino said: “It’s always sad to see a player leave, because the group was very good, and he’s a very good guy, and adds very good quality to the group, [a] different option.
“He’s a player that can play in different positions in the attack.
“Yes, sad situation, sad for him, sad for the team, but I think we need to prioritise his process to recovery.
“He already arrived with some problems in his Achilles, and then we cannot fix the problem.
“He increased [his] pain.
“That is why that [this] is the decision that we take.”
It’s a worrying situation for Coventry and Frank Lampard, who have taken a bitter blow to their forward department before the new season has even begun.
Coventry City are set to enter the race for Blackburn Rovers captain Lewis Travis.
Football League World exclusively revealed that the Sky Blues are keen on a move, with Travis already wanted by quite a few Championship outfits this summer.
FLW also exclusively revealed earlier in June that Derby County manager John Eustace wanted to re-unite with the 27-year-old at Pride Park, and they were said to have joined Wrexham in the running for his services.
However, the Welsh outfit’s interest in Travis has cooled recently, leaving Derby and now Coventry battling away as we approach the 2025-26 campaign.
