Manchester City could be without several attacking players for tomorrow’s clash with Brighton at the Amex Stadium. Savinho is ruled out until after the international break due to injury. Rayan Cherki is also highly likely to miss tomorrow’s match due to a thigh injury. L’Equipe broke the news on Cherki’s injury earlier today. It was also reported earlier this week that three of Manchester City’s EDS starlets were called up to train with the Manchester City first-team. Perhaps one of Divine Mukasa, Reigan Heskey or Ryan McAidoo could travel with the City squad tomorrow.
Simon Bajkowski reported earlier this week for Manchester Evening News that Divine Mukasa, Reigan Heskey and Ryan McAidoo were all called up by Pep Guardiola to train with the City first-team. Furthermore, Bajkowski reported that the trio missed Manchester City’s EDS side’s 5-1 win over Oldham in the EFL Trophy due to their call-up to train with the City first-team.
Based on the events that have unfolded late this week, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see a young player called up to the City squad for tomorrow’s match. With Savinho out and Cherki likely to be sidelined, Pep Guardiola could do with another attacking option on the bench against Brighton. Divine Mukasa, Reigan Heskey or Ryan McAidoo would provide that. Each player is a weapon in the final third. They have all shown that in recent seasons for City’s youth sides. The fact that Pep Guardiola has called them up this week shows how highly they are regarded.
If you had to pick one of the trio to be the favourite to travel with the Manchester City squad, it would be Divine Mukasa. Mukasa did play in Manchester City’s final pre-season friendly against Palermo. He grabbed an assist to set up Tijjani Reijnders for Manchester City’s third goal in their 3-nil win. Mukasa does appear to be close to breaking through at Manchester City. Heskey and McAidoo seem to be a step behind Mukasa at this stage.
It wouldn’t be a surprise to see a young player on the bench for Manchester City against Brighton. Injuries have hit Manchester City’s attacking stocks. In Mukasa, Heskey, and McAidoo Pep Guardiola has three talented players to call upon. Whether or he does will be known when the squads are announced for tomorrow’s match. But it seems that one young attacking player could be on the bench at the Amex.
