With AC Milan winless heading into the international break, the pens of the Italian media have been sharpened and they have begun to criticise various aspects of the club, including Paulo Fonseca.

This morning’s edition of Corriere dello Sport (via PianetaMilan) talks about the current state of Fonseca’s Milan, who have just two points from the first nine available and are now lagging far behind Inter and Juventus already.

Milan have not started so badly in the championship since the 2011-12 season, when Massimiliano Allegri was the head coach. During that season, Milan also had two points from three games, which proved to be decisive come the end as Antonio Conte’s Juventus won the title

That Milan eventually recovered therefore to mount a Scudetto push, but the paper questions if the current one will be capable of doing so. The light at the end of the tunnel seems very far away because – after two horror games against Torino and Parma – there were only 45 good minutes vs. Lazio.

Six goals conceded in three games is already a critical number, especially when they were six goals that are essentially identical: an unchallenged run down the left, a ball into the middle and an unmarked man waiting to meet it.

It is all too easy to score against Milan, and at the other end it cannot be said that the attack shines either. The Rossoneri have scored in every game, but by developing little team play and creating few real dangers, rather relying on individual play mostly.

The break, perhaps, comes at the right time to save what can be saved, but Fonseca is under pressure because the positive signs from preseason have ultimately gone up in flames.
