Sergio Conceicao seems to be fighting an uphill battle when it comes to trying to remain at AC Milan, and it is a situation that has not left him feeling happy.
Tonight’s game against Fiorentina at San Siro really is the last chance for Europe. Conceicao is aware of the importance of it, with over 70,000 fans expected at the stadium hoping to see a win that sparks a comeback.
Yet, over the past few weeks that has been almost exclusively talk about the future. More specifically, the arrival of a new sporting director who will then choose a coach to replace Conceicao, seemingly destined for an exit after just six months.
According to Corriere della Sera (via MilanPress), the Portuguese coach is apparently ‘disoriented’ by the situation at the Rossoneri, aware that even possibly winning the Coppa Italia will not be enough for him to keep his job.
Conceicao has spoken of his unhappiness before, in particular during his pre-match press conference on the eve of the first leg against Inter. When asked how satisfied he would be with his journey at Milan if he won the Coppa Italia, his response spoke values.
“I don’t know. Satisfied for sure because I would win another trophy. But first we have to win the semi-finals, then the final. I don’t like living this, I like living with intensity day after day and trying to improve the team on a professional level, correct some of the defects I have as a coach.
“My thought every day is to work hard and improve the team and myself. Now thinking about how I will feel in two months, a month and a half, I don’t know. Right now I’m not the happiest in the world for what I’ve experienced in these three months.”
