The win against Hellas Verona before Christmas has done little to change the situation for Paulo Fonseca, who remains in need of results.
As reported in today’s edition of Corriere della Sera (via MilanNews), Milan have lost only one of their last 11 games (at home to Atalanta), but continue to have too many ups and downs, alternating good results and performances with bad ones and without ever finding consistency.
Compared to the start of the season the team have undoubtedly grown, but not enough and for this reason Fonseca has also come under scrutiny again. Tonight against Roma at San Siro and the Supercoppa Italiana in Saudi Arabia could be decisive, because ‘a turning point is needed’.
Being eighth in the table quite simply isn’t good enough, because it means that the minimum objective for the season is in jeopardy of slipping away, and that is to quality for the next edition of the Champions League.
The tests coming up against Claudio Ranieri’s Giallorossi and Thiago Motta’s Juve (in the Supercoppa) will show how far the team have come. The results must pick up but the performance levels too, given that the 1-0 victory in Verona was far from inspiring but was deemed a response by the management.
