Corinthians have renewed their search for a quick wide attacker after financial constraints halted talks for Sporting’s Biel, according to Globo. The club’s technical staff, led by coach Dorival Júnior, continues to prioritize injecting speed into the attack, but cash flow issues remain a major obstacle in this transfer window.

Negotiations for Biel had initially progressed on the basis of a potential loan deal. However, Sporting’s insistence on a permanent transfer and a higher fee than Corinthians considered feasible ended the pursuit. Interim president Osmar Stabile and football director Fabinho Soldado now face the challenge of reinforcing the squad without room for significant financial outlays.

With Biel off the table, Corinthians’ scouting has focused primarily on players either out of contract or available on loan—profiles fitting both sporting requirements and the club’s current budgetary situation.

Another target under internal discussion is Carlos Vinícius, recently released from Fulham and therefore not bound by a transfer fee. The Brazilian striker could provide valuable cover and competition for Yuri Alberto, especially with fixture congestion on the horizon. Carlos Vinícius’ free agent status aligns well with Corinthians’ strategy, as his acquisition would not add pressure to an already tight budget.

Parallel to this market search, the club has also looked to create wiggle room by offloading high earners. Attacking midfielder Igor Coronado’s departure to Sharjah of the United Arab Emirates was confirmed last Friday, a move expected to save Corinthians around R$17 million in wages and bonuses. Coronado’s exit follows multiple injury setbacks and limited impact since his arrival in 2023, and the club’s hope is that the freed resources can be redirected to secure a much-needed reinforcement.

In the meantime, Corinthians continue to assess further sales from their squad to clear additional payroll space, suggesting that more departures could precede any incoming signings.

The urgency to strengthen the attack also reflects Dorival Júnior’s tactical overhaul, which emphasizes rapid transitions and verticality—areas where the current roster has lacked depth and specialist options. The club is keen to supply their manager with the type of winger who can stretch opposing defenses and bring an added dimension to the front line.

Corinthians’ pursuit for an attacker thus faces a delicate balancing act between sporting priorities and financial realities. Unless a cost-effective opportunity arises, it appears the club will need to remain creative, prioritizing short-term deals or opportunities involving players nearing the end of their contracts.
