Laura Coombs says she has plenty more to give after signing a contract extension with Manchester City.
The central midfielder has penned a one-year deal with the Club which will keep her at the Joie Stadium until 2026 and prolong her stay at the Blues to seven years in total.
Since signing from Liverpool in 2019, she has become one of our longest-serving players, lifted two major honours and returned to the international stage with England.
During that time, Coombs has also made 135 City appearances – our ninth highest total since our professional relaunch in 2014.
For our box-to-box midfielder, it was a straightforward decision to stay at the Club and she’s relishing the chance to continue her progress on and off the pitch.
“It was pretty easy for me [to stay], it feels like home and here I’ve developed so much as a player and as a person and I want to continue that development,” she explained.
“We’ve had a few changes of personnel, I think I’ve gone into the leadership group somehow. But I’m really enjoying working with different players and people.
“I think when you’re training at the intensity, we are every day, you’re definitely going to develop whether you’re really young or coming to the twilight of your career and I definitely feel I have more in me.”
Coombs, alongside other senior members of the squad, will assist Club captain Alex Greenwood in driving the world class standards at City throughout 2025/26 as part of our leadership group.
And a motivating factor for the former in stepping into the role is to help the progress of the next generation of players coming through at the Blues.
She added: “It’s good, I feel like there’s a good solid core of us who really want to take the Club forward and we want to improve things for the next generation coming through as well and I’m really happy to be a part of that.”
