Manchester City return to Premier League action this Friday night following their FA Cup heroics at Wembley Stadium to reach a third consecutive final in the competition.

Pep Guardiola and his players are continuing in their pursuit of a top-five finish in the Premier League table in order to qualify for next season’s UEFA Champions League, with stern competition from the likes of Nottingham Forest and Newcastle United in particular.

City do thankfully have what many would deem to be the more favourable run-in of all teams chasing Champions League qualification, with home clashes against Wolves and Bournemouth alongside visits to Southampton and Fulham – whom they face on the final weekend.

Alongside such a fixture list, Guardiola has also been further boosted by the returns of some of his most key players as Manuel Akanji and Phil Foden have been followed by Ederson, Erling Haaland, and Rodri in returning to full first-team training in recent weeks.

There has also been a significant up-turn in performances on the pitch by various names in the squad, with Nico O’Reilly nailing down a place at left-back, allowing for Josko Gvardiol to excel in the centre of defence, and strong showings put in by Mateo Kovacic of late.

Now, ahead of the meeting between Manchester City and Wolverhampton Wanderers, the Premier League have announced the list of match officials to oversee proceedings at the Etihad Stadium on Friday night!

Match Referee

The Premier League have confirmed that the experienced match official Peter Bankes will oversee proceedings between Manchester City and Wolverhampton Wanderers from the role of on-field lead referee at the Etihad Stadium.

This week’s fixture will mark the 29th game of Bankes’ season across competitions having officiated contests in the Premier League, FA Cup, Championship, and League Cup with 114 yellow cards issued, two second yellow dismissals, one red card, and six penalties awarded.

Manchester City have recorded a very mixed record of form in contests officiated by Peter Bankes, winning three matches, drawing one, and losing four across the eight occasions they have come across one another.

Peter Bankes has officiated a total of three Manchester City matches this season, with Pep Guardiola’s side losing twice and winning the other; most recently a 5-1 defeat to Arsenal, a 2-1 loss at Aston Villa, and a 3-2 home win against Fulham.

Assistant Referees

Accompanying Peter Bankes at the Etihad Stadium on Friday night for Manchester City against Wolves will be an Assistant Referee pairing of Lee Betts and Nick Greenhalgh, the Premier League have confirmed.

Video Assistant Referees

Overseeing Manchester City’s meeting with Wolves on Friday night from the VAR Hub at Stockley Park will be the confirmed Video Assistant Referee, Paul Tierney and his Assistant Video Assistant Referee, Steve Meredith.

Fourth Official

Standing between the two Etihad Stadium dugouts and ensuring all is kept in order between Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City and Wolves’ Vitor Pereira will be the confirmed fourth official, Thomas Bramall.
