Manchester City aim to bounce back from a drab showing at Old Trafford last weekend when they return to Premier League action on Saturday lunchtime.
Crystal Palace are the visitors to the Etihad Stadium in the latest threat to Manchester City’s hopes of qualifying for UEFA Champions League competition next season, which were handed a significant boost by Arsenal in midweek.
Mikel Arteta’s side recorded a hugely impressive 3-0 win over Real Madrid in the first-leg of the two sides’ quarter-final double-header, with that win handing the Premier League an extra place in next season’s competition.
As such, Manchester City would now only need to finish in the division’s top five places in order to feature once again in the Champions League. But given the performances of Pep Guardiola’s side and the strength of competition at the top of the table, doubts remain.
Qualification for Europe’s premier club competition is likely to be Manchester City’s top priority in the weeks that remain this season, however they will also be looking towards the FA Cup as a chance for silverware.
Manchester City take on Nottingham Forest at Wembley Stadium in an FA Cup semi-final clash at the end of this month, while this weekend’s Premier League opponents are also in the last-four of the same competition with a meeting against Aston Villa.
Now, ahead of the battle between two FA Cup semi-finalists in Manchester City and Crystal Palace, the Premier League have announced the list of match officials to oversee proceedings at the Etihad Stadium!
The Premier League have this week confirmed that Jarred Gillett will be the lead on-field match referee for the top-flight meeting between Manchester City and Crystal Palace at the Etihad Stadium.
This will be the Australian-born official’s 18th match officiated across all competitions so far in this campaign, having already been involved in contests across the Championship, UEFA Champions League qualifying, Community Shield, and FA Cup.
Across the course of his 17 matches so far across competitions, Gillett has handed out a total of 68 yellow cards, with just one dismissal via a second yellow card offence, and awarding three penalties in the process.
Manchester City currently have a near-perfect record in matches officiated by the 37-year-old official, winning seven of their nine matches involving Jarred Gillett, drawing the other two outings.
The last time Manchester City were in action in a game involving Jarred Gillett as match official came in North London, as a single goal from Erling Haaland proved to be the difference in a narrow 0-1 win over Tottenham Hotspur.
Accompanying Jarred Gillett out on the pitch at the Etihad Stadium this weekend will be an assistant referee pairing of Darren Cann and Ian Hussin, the Premier League have announced this week.
Watching over proceedings involving Manchester City and Crystal Palace from the VAR Hub at Stockley Park will be the appointed Video Assistant Referee, Peter Bankes alongside support from Assistant Video Assistant Referee, Simon Bennett.
Ensuring that matters are all in check between the two Etihad Stadium dugouts headed up by Manchester City’s Pep Guardiola and Crystal Palace’s Oliver Glasner will be the appointed fourth official, Chris Kavanagh.
