Confirmed: Girona star undergoes ankle surgery | OneFootball

A member of the defensive ranks at La Liga outfit Girona was on Thursday forced under the knife.

As much was confirmed by the Catalans themselves, who highlight Miguel Gutiérrez as the player in question.

Defender Gutiérrez spent much of last season some way short of full fitness.

Owing to a niggling ankle problem, the 23-year-old was regularly required to undertake injection treatments ahead of fixtures.

Upon Gutiérrez returning to base for pre-season training this week, the versatile full-back’s wellbeing was therefore assessed once more.

With discomfort still present in the Spaniard’s right ankle, the call was in turn made for Gutiérrez to undergo surgery.

As per a statement across Girona’s social media platforms:

‘Miguel Gutiérrez has undergone surgical intervention to address the discomfort he has been experiencing, since last season, in his right ankle. The procedure was performed by Dr. Cugat. The progression of the injury will determine his return to training with the team.’

Whilst no indication of how long Gutiérrez is likely to be sidelined for was included in the Blanquivermells’ announcement, Mundo Deportivo point to a likely absence of six to eight weeks.
