Celtic B Team will continue to play in the Lowland League next season. Yesterday the official account of the Scottish Lowland Football League confirmed that list of clubs who will be participating in the fifth tier division in Scottish football and the young Hoops are there.

Celtic B Team is joined by the Hearts B Team but once again there is no interest from theRangers who seem to rely of friendly matches without having an organised league structure to compete in. There was also talk of many of the young players at Ibrox leaving in a cost cutting exercise, while the Rangers FC Women side who won a cup double this season but lost out to Hibernian Women for the SWPL title, have a wealthy funder who essentially takes care of the costs.

The Lowland League is not without its critics and several Celtic players have left the club in recent years due to the lack of pathway to the first team. Think of the likes of Daniel Kelly and Rocco Vata last summer and probably  Daniel Cummings this summer. All three players sampled first team football under Brendan Rodgers, all three are self-confessed Celtic supporters but two and probably all three have opted to move to England rather than hang around the fringes at Celtic or play in the Lowland League.

There was an article that struck me about the Irish Under 21s that stated that of all the squad at the time Rocco Vata was playing at the lowest level of football (in the Lowland League) yet was one of the team’s top players.

This season Celtic B Team finished second behind East Kilbride while Hearts finished one place behind Cowdenbeath in eleventh.

The ideal solution seems to be to re-establish the reserve league for the Scottish Premiership.
