Milan didn’t take advantage of the make-up game against Bologna to gain ground in the Champions League, and coach Sergio Conceiçao stated that he’d be ready to step down if it helped in his post-game remarks (via Goal).

“There was a blatant handball on the first goal. We should do more about all these negative episodes. We must keep working and see what we did well. All our errors turn out to be decisive. When we settle into games, we play like we prepared, cover the pitch well, and arrive in the final third easily. Then, every now and again, these things happen. The referee isn’t the only one responsible for this loss, but these instances are piling up. It’s a mental thing too.”

Conceiçao addressed the rumors about his job security.

“There’s daily chatter about my situation here, and it’s unfair. In recent years, I’ve faced five Italian teams and eliminated most of them despite having an inferior side. Only Inter beat us. I know what I can and want to do. It’s simple: if they tell me that I’m no longer needed, I’ll pack up my bags and go and won’t pocket any more euros. I didn’t come out of the nowhere. I’ve won almost 100 Champions League fixtures and 13 trophies. I have a family and people close to me. A lot of mean things are written about me constantly, and that’s not right. Sorry for venting.”

Conceiçao commented on the squad’s morale.

“The locker room is sad and frustrated for this result. I give all I have, but I’m criticized all the time and don’t get any respect.”
