Following a largely uneventful summer, Lazio will begin their Serie A campaign with an away fixture against Como.

While this will be the club’s first Serie A contest of the season, Como have already played an official match last week, beating Sudtirol 3-1 in the third round of the Coppa Italia thanks to Anastasios Douvikas’ brace.
The Lariani had also impressed in pre-season, beating LOSC Lille, Asian champions Al-Ahli, Ajax and Real Betis, but they also suffered a 0-5 pummelling at the hands of Barcelona in the Joan Gamper Trophy.
This summer, Lazio found mild success in pre-season, as Maurizio Sarri kept testing several combinations. The Biancocelesti beat their U20 team 2-0 in their first test, before prevailing over Avellino by a solitary goal.
The Aquile then suffered a 0-1 defeat to Fenerbahce, followed by an entertaining 2-2 against Galatasaray in back-to-back friendlies in Istanbul. Nevertheless, they finished their pre-season on a positive note, beating Burnley at Turk Moor thanks to Matteo Cancellieri’s winner, and then recording a 2-0 win over Atromitos in what was anything but a ‘friendly’ affair.
Como (4-3-3): Butez, Vojvoda, Ramon, Kempf, Valle; Nico Paz, Da Cunha, Caqueret; Diao, Morata, Rodriguez.
Lazio (4-3-3): Provedel; Marusic, Gila, Provstgaard, Nuno Tavares; Guendouzi, Rovella, Dele-Bashiru; Cancellieri, Castellanos, Zaccagni.
Alfredo Pedullà insisted that keeping the same squad from last season is absolutely not an advantage for Lazio, who are trailing behind their rivals. However, it might give them the edge on this particular case, as Como’s newly-crafted squad might require a few weeks to adjust, especially with some of their new signings lacking Serie A experience.
