Cole Palmer has revealed he’s excited to play with Liam Delap and believes the England under-21 international is one of the best strikers in the Premier League.

The Blues made Delap their first summer signing after agreeing a deal worth £30m with Ipswich and the 22-year-old will wear the number nine shirt at Stamford Bridge.

Delap was Enzo Maresca’s top target and the Blues will be delighted to have beaten off strong competition from the likes of Manchester United and Newcastle.

Delap will add a much needed different dimension to the Chelsea attack and an alternative for Nicolas Jackson which the Blues desperately need.

The England under-21 international impressed in his debut Premier League season, scoring 12 goals and his move to Stamford Bridge will see him reunited with some familiar faces.

Delap is set to make his Chelsea debut at the Club World Cup.

Delap will once again link up with Palmer and Romeo Lavia who he played with in the Manchester City academy, whilst he was also coached at City by Maresca.

The pressure will be on Delap to score goals, but Palmer believes he’s one of the best strikers in the Premier League.

“I’m excited to play with him. I was messaging him asking If he was coming and that,” he told The Sun.

“I played with him at Under 18s, 21s. We went to the first team together.

“He’s a great striker, one of the best in the Premier League. You can see from last season.

“So I think he’ll help us a lot and hopefully score lots of goals.”

Chelsea debut at Club World Cup

Chelsea fans won’t have to wait long to see Delap make his debut and he’s set to be left out of the England squad for the U21 Euros.

Delap is expected to go to the Club World Cup with Chelsea and could be in line to make his debut on June 16th against Los Angeles FC.

Chelsea will be hoping that Palmer and Delap can strike up a similar partnership from their youth days, and if they can then the Blues could be set for a successful season.
