AC Milan made the decision to send various players out on loan during the summer transfer window, and some of those calls have been put under the microscope.

Calciomercato.com recall how Yacine Adli has already come back to haunt Milan with his goal in the 2-1 defeat to Fiorentina before the October international break, and by a strange twist of fate the next couple of league fixtures are Empoli and Atalanta.

Starting with David Vasquez, the signing from Club Guaranì was a strange one. He joined on a contract until 2026 and he played twice for the Primavera, then heading on loan to Sheffield Wednesday in the Championship in England and then to Empoli.

In the second-tier in England and then at the same level in Italy he played 10 appearances  clean sheets and kept five clean sheets. That was enough for Empoli to come along in July and sign him on loan with a €900k option to buy with a sell-on included.

Since then he has played 14 games in the league and cup, conceding just 12 goals and keeping a clean sheet five times. From a reserve to a trusted goalkeeper, Vasquez’s value has risen a lost from the figure Milan agreed to potentially sell him for.

Yacine Adli is also experiencing a similar trajectory, too. He was a bit of an object of mystery after his initial arrival from Bordeaux in in 2021 (and his loan back there), and he struggled for consistent starts under Stefano Pioli.

Then, Paulo Fonseca came along in the summer as the new head coach and decided the Franco-Algerian was surplus to requirements. Thus, he went to Fiorentina on loan with an option to buy, where he has racked up 14 appearances with three goals and three assists, scoring against Milan too.

Then we come to Charles De Ketelaere, who cost €35m to sign from Club Brugge but ultimately cost Atalanta €3m for a loan fee and €22m as an option to buy, plus some bonuses in favour of the Rossoneri.

His numbers tell a story: 40 appearances and only one assist with Milan, then 50 appearances, 14 goals and 11 assists for Atalanta last season. This season he is already at 18 appearances with four goals and nine assists.
