Having digested yet more dropped points under Philippe Clement, Rangers fans are now widely-opposed to this manager, whose post-match comments were very much of a manager on the verge of resigning.
At least they should have been.
Now, in truth, Dundee Utd have been a bit underestimated – this wasn’t a bottom-rung team, they were fourth, only a few points behind the Famous, and they’ve worked hard to have a good season so far.
But in the normal course of things a Rangers team who just spent £16M in the summer should not be fighting them for third. Indeed, it’s going in the direction of fourth as things stand.
Philippe Clement has lost pretty much the dressing room entirely, signed absolute mince in cahoots with the-now Technical Director Nils Koppen, and after Ibrox Noise preached our view since March, fellow fans have now turned entirely on the manager.
This is nothing to do with the board, even if they’re hardly shining either – a half decent manager would not be struggling for fourth place – it’s why we dumped Pedro, why PLG was the bigger man and resigned, it’s why Mark Warburton was out of his depth.
Clement is a good manager but not for this team – he shines in Belgium, more open expansive football, and he’s got success there.
But for Rangers, in Scotland, he’s not got the right stuff, and just cannot make a team out of the resources he has.
Forget the board and the budget – Rangers fans can barely handle being second-best in the league if the resources just aren’t there to compete with Celtic as it is, but being third or fourth when your resources completely dwarf Aberdeen and Dundee Utd is diabolical.
Clement is not a good manager for Rangers, and unfortunately, as long as he’s boss, it’ll only get worse.
Oh, for a Walter Smith.
