Claudio Ranieri was the recipient of an award at Coverciano training center earlier today.
The coach spoke to the media about his retirement as a coach which will take place in a few games.
“If I had arrived at the beginning of the season would we have more points? I don’t like these comparisons, those who were before me did their best, I arrived at a difficult time.”
“Perhaps arriving in difficulty helped me, the difficulty of those players who had lost a little awareness of how good they were was stimulating to me.”
“I tried to make as few mistakes as possible, because the skill always goes to the one who goes on the field, the coach, yes, it helps to be credible, to give the right instructions, but then the players are the main actors.”
“I thought so as a player and I think so now after 35-37 years as a coach. I don’t know how I remotivated the team but I’m not someone who studied psychology. No, I say what I feel. Maybe my credibility. I speak with my heart to the players, I say what I feel.”
“Football has given me so much. Now I have been called to another type of commitment, I hope it goes well and that I don’t cause damage on the other side. Football has given me so much, it’s my life and everything, but there comes a time when you have to say enough. Enough because it’s right like this, even leaving at a positive moment.”
“I had said enough to Cagliari and I said it with my heart, and my wife believed me too. Roma called me, I said yes to a year as a coach and two as a senior advisor. And to tell the truth I don’t even know what that is.”
