City U18s fought hard for a 2-1 win against Sunderland in a gripping Under-18 Premier League North head to head.

A Teddie Lamb opener helped us go ahead after nine minutes of action, before an own goal from Harrison Miles saw us head into the break level.

City were then awarded a penalty less than a minute into the restart, but Lamb's attempt was saved by Joseph Cowan.

The 16-year-old ended up the hero, though, as he ran onto a Tyrone Samba cross to fire home and seal a well earnt victory.

What happened in 250 words

Teddie Lamb got us under way on Wearside as Oliver Reiss' side hoped to capitalise on our impressive 5-0 victory over Leeds last weekend.

And we didn't have to wait long before grabbing hold of the action inside ten minutes, as Christian Dunbar McDonald danced around the Sunderland defence and laid a shot into the box, which was followed in by Lamb to open his account for the Blues.

City were thriving as we continued to grow into the game, but we were far from out of the woods as Sunderland posed a real threat on the attack themselves.

After winning a free-kick outside the Blues' box, Joe Neild's attempt at goal went in off Harrison Miles' head.

It was an unfortunate goal to concede as we headed into the break honours even.

Less than 60 seconds into the restart, Lamb was brought down in the box by Charlie Forsyth, before Joseph Cowan guessed the right way as he pushed the 16-year-old's effort onto the post.

City continued to look sharp though and were pushing hard to find the winning goal as we kept hot on the heels of the Black Cats' defence, pinching the ball back as high up as we could.

And our hard work paid off as Tyrone Samba cut back on the left before sliding the ball into the path of Lamb, who picked it up on the rebound and fired it home as we restored our lead once again.

Both sides continued to push in the latter stages as Tom Proctor went one on one with Max Hudson, before Floyd Samba challenged the Black Cats' goalkeeper in added time.

The game had everything as tempers flared late on with a red card shown in the 96th minute to Sunderland's Liam Hunt following an altercation on the pitch.

But that was to be the last bit of competitive action in Wearside as the young Blues earnt their second victory of the season.
