Kevin De Bruyne marked his final home appearance for Manchester City in style, helping his side to a 3-1 victory over Bournemouth that keeps them on track for a Champions League place next season. The match also saw Rodri make his long-awaited return from injury.
The hosts took the lead after just 14 minutes when Omar Marmoush surged forward and unleashed a stunning strike from 30 yards that dipped perfectly into the top-left corner.
City could have doubled their lead moments later when Marmoush squared the ball to De Bruyne just yards from goal with the net gaping - but the Belgian somehow scooped his shot onto the crossbar.
The visitors then had their own chance denied by the woodwork, with Evanilson stretching to meet a cross and striking the post.
Bernardo Silva eventually made it 2-0 in the 38th minute, finishing neatly at the near post after Ilkay Gundogan pulled the ball back into his path.
The second half was a scrappier affair, and both sides ended up with ten men.
Mateo Kovacic saw red for pulling back Evanilson as the last man, while Lewis Cook was also dismissed for a reckless challenge on Nico Gonzalez.
The Etihad erupted in the 82nd minute when Rodri stepped onto the pitch for his first appearance in eight months, coming on as a late sub.
Gonzalez added a third near the end to wrap up the win, though Dan Jebbison grabbed a consolation for the Cherries in stoppage time.
The result sees Pep Guardiola’s men climb to third in the table, two points clear of Newcastle, Chelsea and Aston Villa with one game left. Meanwhile, Bournemouth’s hopes of finishing eighth are officially over.
