Bristol Rovers may fancy some extra firepower in January and won’t necessarily need to break the bank.

They recruited heavily in the summer but some haven’t had the desired impact and others have suffered injuries.

It leaves them potentially still in search of reinforcements in January when the winter window opens.

We asked our Bristol Rovers Fan Pundit, Josh, where he wants his club to focus their attention next month.

Bristol Rovers urged to search in free agent market in January transfer window

The Rovers fan feels reinforcements could be useful in the window, but that low-cost options could be just as useful as more expensive picks.

Speaking to Football League World, Josh said: “Yeah, I mean, there are a few positions. I think we need to recruit.

“In all honesty, I think that that kind of left-wing/number 10 role is lacking.

“We are struggling up top at a minute. We just don't score goals. Chris Martin's struggling up there by himself.

“Gatlin O’Donkor, Promise Omochere, they've been injured, but again, haven't been prolific so far, although I do rate both.

“If it were me, I'd be looking at an on-loan, you know, big-hitting striker. I think even in League Two, you know, that kiddy from Walsall doing very well, I don't think they'd let him go. But I'd be looking at those positions.

“I’d also be looking in the free agent market, you know, Kane Vincent-Young, Marcus Browne, players that are proven in the past.

“I would be looking at Jamal Blackman as a back-up keeper. I would be looking in the free agent market as well.”

Rovers could do worse than taking a chance on Marcus Browne

If the Gas are looking for someone who can play on the wing and behind a striker, they could certainly do worse than Marcus Browne.

Although the free agent has never been prolific, he’s well-tested at the level, has a respectable record of goal involvements at the level and, at 26, still has plenty of time to grow and evolve.

Also, having now faced a spell unattached to a club for the first time in his career, there’s every chance he’ll have a new-found hunger to prove his worth at Bristol Rovers’ level.

It wouldn’t be the first time a player has gone on to be a key member of a squad after a club has taken a bit of a gamble and given them a chance.

Before splashing any more money, Rovers must check what they’re looking for isn’t available in the free agent market.
