Seventeen-year-old striker Chido Obi-Martin has etched his name into Manchester United’s history books by becoming the club’s youngest-ever starter in a Premier League match.

Manager Ruben Amorim included the Danish forward in the starting lineup against Brentford, surpassing the previous record held by Mason Greenwood.

Obi-Martin, at 17 years and 156 days old, is 67 days younger than Greenwood was during his first Premier League start in May 2019 .

Obi-Martin’s journey to this milestone began with his move from Arsenal to Manchester United in October 2024.

At Arsenal, he showcased his goal-scoring prowess by netting 32 goals in just 18 league appearances for the under-18s, including a remarkable seven-goal performance against Norwich City.

His transition to United was swift; he scored a hat-trick within 14 minutes during his debut for United’s under-18 team against Nottingham Forest.

Former United defender Phil Jones has expressed high praise for Obi-Martin, describing him as an “animal” on the pitch and highlighting his potential to significantly impact the team’s future.

Obi-Martin’s rapid ascent through the ranks underscores Man United’s commitment to nurturing young talent and integrating them into the first team.

Internationally, Obi-Martin has represented Denmark at various youth levels and has also been eligible to play for England and Nigeria.

His diverse background and impressive performances have made him a player to watch on both club and international stages.

Obi-Martin’s record-breaking start against Brentford not only marks a personal achievement but also signals a promising future for Man United’s youth development strategy.

With both Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee struggling to perform this season, Obi-Martin deserves more playing time at the club.

He is a natural goal scorer who has an eye for goal and can prove to be lethal in front for the Red Devils.
