Chelsea’s idea remains to sell midfielder Carney Chukwuemeka this summer, but Borussia Dortmund are unlikely to pay the asking price as things stand according to BBC Sport journalist Nizaar Kinsella.

Chukwuemeka is currently on loan at Dortmund having joined the Bundesliga outfit in January, and is part of their squad for the Club World Cup.

Dortmund reached an agreement with Chelsea earlier this week for Chukwuemeka to remain at the club for the remainder of the competition.

Chelsea’s idea remains to sell Chukwuemeka

Chukwuemeka wasn’t part of the squad which beat Mexican side Monterrey 2-1 on Tuesday to set up a quarter final showdown against Real Madrid.

The 21-year-old is surplus to requirements at Stamford Bridge, and it’s been previously reported he’s got a release clause of £40m in his contract.

Chukwuemeka has made three appearances from the bench during the Club World Cup, whilst he scored one goal in ten Bundesliga appearances last season.

Another loan for the former Aston Villa man seems most likely at this stage, and Kinsella has shared an update on the situation.

He took to X.com and said:

“Chelsea’s idea remains to sell Chukwuemeka this summer.

“Dortmund unlikely to pay Chelsea’s asking price – as it stands – but if it drops significantly or he becomes available for loan again then he could re-join the German club next season.”

Dortmund boss Nico Kovac is an admirer of Chukwuemeka, and a move to the Bundelsiga outfit would enable the midfielder to play Champions League football.

Joao Felix set to leave

Chukwuemeka isn’t the only player set to leave Stamford Bridge this summer, and the Blues are also expected to move Joao Felix on.

Felix only arrived last summer from Atletico Madrid last summer for £45m, but spent the second half of last season on loan at AC Milan.

Milan won’t be signing the Portugal international on a permanent basis, and Felix is attracting interest from clubs in Saudi Arabia, as well as his former side Benfica.
