Chelsea travel to Manchester City on Saturday evening in a clash of huge consequence in the race for Champions League qualification.
Enzo Mareca’s side climbed back into the top four with a win over Wolves on Monday, but City are chasing them down and sit just two points behind the West Londoners.
Chelsea are aiming to improve a torrid recent record against the Citizens. The Blues have not beaten City since the 2021 Champions League final – a run of 10 games in all competitions. Victory over Wolves was also a first league win in six games for Chelsea, whose form has been unconvincing in recent weeks.
Manchester City are unbeaten in five Premier League games to move back into the top-four race. However, Pep Guardiola’s team were beaten in Europe in midweek, blowing a 2-0 lead to lose at Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League.
Enzo Maresca has said Levi Colwill and Enzo Fernandez could be fit to feature after missing the win over Wolves.
Romeo Lavia is unavailable to face his former team and the Belgian joins Wesley Fofana, Benoit Badiashile in the treatment room. Mykhailo Mudryk remains unavailable for selection after an adverse finding in a drug test.
Maresca also reiterated his faith in goalkeeper Robert Sanchez, despite another costly error on Monday night. Only Ipswich’s Arijanet Muric (5) has made more errors leading directly to goals than Sanchez (4) among Premier League goalkeepers this season. Filip Jorgensen offers an alternative in goal.
Chelsea predicted XI: Sanchez; James, Chalobah, Tosin, Cucurella; Caicedo, Fernandez, Palmer; Neto, Sancho, Jackson.
Manchester City host Chelsea in the Premier League on Saturday 25th January 2025. Kick-off at the Etihad is 17:30 GMT.
The fixture will be broadcast on Sky Sports Main Event and Premier League from 17:00 GMT.
