Chelsea’s players have scattered across the globe to join their national teams, and this is the time when we get some interesting interviews from them speaking to the media in their home countries.

Frenchman Christopher Nkunku has been speaking about his season so far, and overcoming the injury issues which almost entirely wiped out his first season with us:

“I have gone through difficult phases psychologically. These are also adventures that make you more strong and I learnt to understand my body, as well as patience and resilience,” said the forward in quotes picked up by GFFN.

“I am rediscovering my level. In terms of rhythm, that will come with game time,” said the Paris Saint-Germain academy product of his battle to start for Enzo Maresca.

“I want to stay and to perform. It is one of my objectives. The injuries are behind me. The goal is to stay fit and in good health.”

Nkunku happy to wait patiently – for now

So far, we’ve seen nothing but a good attitude from Nkunku, despite him being forced to compete for first team minutes from the B team. He did a celebration after his late winner against Bournemouth where he did a lot of pointing at himself, making it clear he’s pushing for a start, but even after that game he spent his interviews very diligently pointing out that competition was good for everyone, and that he was happy to compete with other players for first team action.

Whether his patience will last the whole season is a different question. But it’s so far so good, with Nkunku able to bang them in for the second string and allow the first team to rest. After this international break we go into a Christmas phase with a crazy number of games, so his chance in the first XI is going to be coming around sooner or later, that much is guaranteed.

When it comes he should be fit, firing, in from and injury free.
