Chelsea are ‘on the verge’ of reaching an agreement to sell Conor Gallagher to Atletico Madrid.

Atletico are interested in signing the England international and in dialogue with Chelsea to determine the conditions of a potential deal. Gallagher has entered the final 12 months of his contract at Chelsea and the Blues are willing to sell the midfielder for the right price.

Fabrizio Romano has revealed talks over a deal for Gallagher ‘accelerated’ on Tuesday with discussions over a fee in the region of €35m to €40m (£29.4m to £33.7m).

Diego Simeone wants to add the 24-year-old to his midfield options as Atleti look to beat competition from the Premier League to Gallagher’s signature. Tottenham Hotspur have held a long-standing interest in signing the midfielder.

The final decision on a transfer will rest with Gallagher, who has expressed no desire to leave Chelsea and is reportedly prepared to see out the final season of his contract at Stamford Bridge.

Gallagher made 50 appearances in all competitions for the West Londoners in 2023-24, scoring seven goals, and featured five times as England reached the final of Euro 2024 this summer.
