Chelsea are reportedly looking to re-sign a former player as they place him high up on the transfer shortlist moving forward.

It could be a case of Chelsea sensing an opportunity to bring said player in with his contract running down, and it’s not the first time they have been linked with him.

EXCLUSIVE! Chelsea stepping up pursuit of Premier League striker – not Evan Ferguson!

It is clear now that Chelsea are seeking new centre backs in one of the next upcoming transfer windows, with it being an area that they still want to improve in.

One player they are apparently looking at is former Blue Marc Guehi, who of course is now currently playing for Crystal Palace.

The centre back came up through the Chelsea academy at Cobham and he has gone on to become a very top defender, making it in the international fold with England as well.

Chelsea eye Guehi return

Guehi playing for England

Journalist Graeme Bailey has exclusively told The Chelsea Chronicle that he is high up on their list of potential signings.

He said: “Guehi is someone who they like, he’s high up on the list. Palace have got issues, a January deal is not something Guehi is pushing for.

“He’ll have a year left on his deal next summer, and will be a very attractive proposition for one of the top six. He’s one to keep an eye on for sure, we know Chelsea like him, and Chelsea do want to upgrade the options behind Fofana and Colwill.”

As I say, Chelsea might see an opportunity here to pick him up cheaper in the summer as his current contract runs down. So it could be one of those smart signings that they look to make, a bit like when they picked up Tosin Adarabioyo on a free in the summer as deep cover for those centre back areas.
