Chelsea’s pursuit of Alejandro Garnacho has gone up another gear in recent days, but it’s still ultimately a very patient approach.
The Blues know that Manchester United want to sell, and that relations between the player and club are broken. The Argentine has also made it clear that Chelsea are the only destination for him. Meanwhile Man U have spent big on attackers and desperately need to bring some cash in.
So Enzo Maresca’s team can just sit tight and wait for the Red Devils to get desperate towards the end of the window.

It’s a handy tactic – but it’s also one that can be used against them. As Christian Falk has written in his Daily Briefing today, it’s actually a move that Dortmund are using in their chase of Carney Chukwuemeka.
“Dortmund are playing for time with Chukwuemeka,” he writes.
“The club told the player: commit to BVB in talks with the Chelsea bosses. Then the Blues can’t do anything with other clubs.”
Once time runs out, and “Chelsea get nervous,” Dortmund think they’ll get the deal they want.
It’s not a bad tactic – we can see it working. It all depends how desperate the Blues are for money. At the moment they’ve kept the books quite balanced, but if they end up signing Xavi Simons and a central defender, things could get expensive and they may get desperate for some liquidity.
In terms of price tag, Chelsea have dropped their demands all the way to €25m, and we can’t see them going much lower. Dortmund are hoping to get them to agree to a loan with a purchase option after one year, as we reported yesterday.
