Chelsea continue to make decisive moves in the transfer market, with the departure of talented teenage goalkeeper Mike Penders on loan today’s headline so far.

The incoming transfers of Dutch pair Jorrel Hato and Xavi Simons are expected within the next couple of weeks too. In terms of potential outgoing big names, one figure could dominate headlines between now and the end of the window.

Nicolas Jackson has had two years as our undisputed number one striker, but things change very quickly in football, and in Jackson’s case it was the work of a few weeks to slide from king of the hill to potential departure.

Liam Delap and Joao Pedro both signed for Chelsea and impressed in their early performances, while Jackson followed up a red card in a crucial game to end the season with another at the Club World Cup. Before you know it, he’s slid to third choice and is being regularly linked with moves away.

Chelsea striker could leave – but only for serious price

The Independent today claim that Chelsea are asking £80m for the Senegal star, which is putting off his main suitor Newcastle. They value Jackson at closer to £65m, which does seem closer to what we would have been expecting.

Chelsea are under no pressure to let him go – but they know his value will only fall if he sits on the bench all season.

For now, it seems the line we’ve heard all along from the likes of Fabrizio Romano holds true – Jackson can go, but only if Chelsea get an offer that really persuades them. And if they’re wanting £80m, we can’t see them getting one.
