In a recent report, journalist Graeme Bailey stated that Chelsea are in talks to recruit Red Bull Leipzig centre-forward Benjamin Sesko. It is believed that the Blues could face competition in the form of Liverpool, Manchester United and Newcastle United in pursuit of the Slovenia international.

Sesko’s Impressive Numbers In German Football

Sesko enjoyed a decent run of form at the German club after he produced a handful of eye-catching performances for them in the Bundesliga. The 22-year-old found the back of the net 21 times and earned six assists in 45 appearances for RB Leipzig last season across various competitions.

The Radece-born striker proved his worth in the final third by averaging 2.5 shots per 90 minutes in the Bundesliga. He kept 43.9% of his attempts on target. However, Sesko needs to work on improving his link-up play in the opposition half after completing just 67.6% of his attempted passes in the top tier of German football (stats via fbref.com).

Sesko is under contract at the German club until the summer of 2029. Hence, it won’t be easy for Chelsea to get a deal done for him on the cheap in this transfer window.

Should Chelsea Boss Enzo Maresca Snap Sesko Up?

Sesko excels at finding some space for himself to get a few shots in at goal. He has proven himself as a good finisher in the final third and can even create the odd chance for others around him up top.

The Slovenia international is a powerful runner with the ball as well. Standing at 1.95m, he is a strong presence in the air. However, Sesko needs to find a way to improve his passing accuracy in the opposition half. Furthermore, it remains to be seen whether he can make a smooth transition to life in the Premier League.

We can expect Sesko to bring more firepower to Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca’s frontline. He has what it takes to compete for regular first-team football at Stamford Bridge.

At 22, Sesko has the potential to be a world-class striker someday. Thus, the Blues would be wise to try everything in their power to snap him up before the end of this summer transfer period.
