Charlton Athletic denied Sunderland an excellent away win, after scoring twice in the last nine minutes of the 90. The game was just eight minutes old when Katie Kitching struck for the Black Cats, Jessie Stapleton making it 2-0 midway through the first half. Kayleigh Barton pulled one back with the help of Jodie Hutton and even though Jenna Dear got Sunderland’s third, Karin Muya’s late four-minute brace brought the scores level.

Durham took all the points in a derby clash at Newcastle United, Mollie Lambert making the 89th-minute breakthrough. The Wildcats are now within a point of the Addicks.

Birmingham beat Blackburn with a goal in either half, to move within three points of the leaders. City breached Rovers defence as Louise Quinn scored from an Ashanti Akpan delivery. Ellie Mason delivered for substitute Christie Harrison-Murray to get the second approaching the last 10 minutes.

Bristol City collected their first win of the season, 4-2 at Sheffield United. Lexi Lloyd-Smith and Ffion Morgan both scored to give Bristol a 2-0 lead by the half-hour mark. Eva Butler halved the deficit in first-half added time but Amelia Thestrup restored the two-goal cushion early in the second half, with Abi Harrison soon further extending the advantage. Maria Farrugia gave the Blades hope with quarter of an hour left but it would be a fifth straight defeat for the hosts.

London City Lionesses’ Isobel Goodwin scored four of their five goals, as Portsmouth suffered another heavy defeat. Emma Mukandi set up Teyah Goldie to open the scoring for the Lionesses. Goodwin doubled the lead inside 30 minutes and made it a hat-trick with two quick goals following the interval. Pompey did reply with their first ever goal in the Championship, albeit an own-goal by Chantelle Boye-Hlorkah, before Goodwin got her fourth of the day.
