Cesc Fabregas returns to Barcelona to face off against his former club in the Joan Gamper Trophy. After all, he now coaches Como and the Italian side is now set to play against La Blaugrana. As such, this match will be a special one for him.
Ahead of the match itself, the Serie A side’s coach spoke about various topics. During a pre-match interview of sorts, he spoke about various topics ranging from talking about the club to Hansi Flick to even individual players.
As quoted by Mundo Deportivo, he first spoke about the game itself and spoke about his objective and hopes for the match:
“I’m excited to be here and compete. I have very strong feelings. There’s no shame if we don’t win, as long as we play with our style and our model.”
As for his return to the city and club, he did not hold back his emotions and feelings either:
“It’s a beautiful feeling to be at home. I grew up here. I’m deeply moved.”
Moreover, when speaking about Barça, he was very clear that Hansi Flick’s side is currently the best team in the continent:
“Very important because we’re facing, for me, the best team in Europe, one that does similar things to what we want to do.”
One of the players that he was asked to talk about was Lamine Yamal, and Fabregas was full of praise for him:
“He’s incredible — you have to watch him and enjoy him. He’s an inspiration for the boys I coach.”

He did not forget to talk about Hansi Flick either, and clearly showcased his respect and admiration for the German tactician:
“I love him. I’m looking forward to spending twenty minutes with him after the game — I have so many questions. He has a modern footballing vision, like with the offside line.”
Fabregas also spoke about his side’s preparation for the game against Barça, and revealed that he was eager to face the Catalan side:
“With our weapons, our cards. If you come just to defend, they’ll put five past you. I’m just eager to compete against such a strong team.”
Another player that the Como coach spoke about was Pedri, and he had some huge praise for the Spanish midfielder:
“My weakness is Pedri — he’s an unbelievable player. He does whatever he wants, whether you press him or not. I’m happy he’s found consistency.”
Lastly, he also provided his opinion on summer arrival Marcus Rashford:
“He’s a difference-maker.”
Now, Fabregas and Flick will need to prepare their respective teams for the upcoming clash. For Barcelona, this will be one final test before they return to La Liga action, and Hansi Flick’s side will want to get a positive result before they kick off the official season.
