Celtic have been linked with a move for Josh Brownhill. The English midfielder is a valuable as a free agent having failed to agree a new contract with Premier League side Burnley.
Brownhill was linked with a move to Celtic last summer with Brendan Rodgers keen to add to his midfield; however, no move transpired and the 29-year-old remained at Turf Moor where he captained Burnley to promotion. Now, as reported by The Daily Star, Celtic are in the mix to sign the player but face competition.
West Ham United are keen to add the player too and you would imagine that a Premier League move would be more likely than a switch to the Scottish Champions. In a statement, Brownhill said that he was keen for a new challenge after leaving Burnley.
Transfermarkt list Brownhill’s value as being £14m but the player is available on a free. It is likely that Brownhill’s wage demands would be outwith Celtic’s wage structure in any case.
With Benjamin Nygren signing to play as an advanced central midfielder, Celtic are well stocked in the midfield with Reo Hatate, Arne Engels, Paulo Bernardo and Luke McCowan competing to play alongside skipper Callum McGregor. Celtic have a number of areas in which they need to strengthen, specifically up front and on the wing.
