Former Celtic goalkeeper Craig Gordon was honoured in a Testimonial between Hearts and Sunderland this afternoon. The veteran goalkeeper was injured but started in between the sticks for the game, before being substituted after less than a minute.
The 42-year-old started his career with Hearts before the £9m switch to Sunderland. However, Gordon is also well remembered for his time at Celtic Park, where he was part of successful Celtic teams. Over 17k fans were in attendance for the game as Derek McInnes’ side won 3-0 against the newly promoted Premier League outfit.
Celtic signed the ex-Sunderland goalkeeper after his awful injury left him in the footballing wilderness. Despite training with Rangers, Celtic offered the player an opportunity to play at the top level while also earning him a place back in the Scotland setup. Gordon replaced Fraser Forster, who left for Southampton, and became a valuable figure at Paradise.
Gordon made 242 appearances at Celtic, winning an incredible 14 major honours in his time in the Hoops. Gordon spent six years at Celtic but following the expiry of his deal in 2020, no agreement was reached leaving the Invincible keeper free to join any club.
Hearts swooped to sign their former £9m export, who played just six games for Celtic from the beginning of 2019 up until his departure in the summer of 2020.
