Real Madrid head coach Carlo Ancelotti has named the three players whom he will be forced to rely upon to man the heart of the club’s defence over the coming weeks.

Real, of course, announced a fresh injury blow on Tuesday morning.

This came amid confirmation that David Alaba, fresh off a long-term spell on the sidelines with a torn ACL, has picked up an adductor problem.

As much follows Antonio Rüdiger also being condemned to a stint on the treatment table over the weekend.

The German was forced into an early departure from Los Blancos’ 1-0 La Liga defeat at the hands of Espanyol, with what was later revealed to be a thigh injury.

With Éder Militão out long-term owing to an ACL rupture of his own, alarm bells have in turn begun to sound behind the scenes in Spain’s capital.

Speaking to the media in his latest press conference on Tuesday, the situation at the heart of his backline was in turn put to the aforementioned Carlo Ancelotti.

And Real Madrid’s headmaster went on to confirm that his current options at centre-back consist of a midfielder, and a pair of youngsters:

“We are in an emergency, as both Rüdiger and Alaba will be out for 20 days. The only options at centre-back are Jacobo Ramón, Raúl Asencio and Tchouaméni.”
