Journalist Javier Herraez has reported on Carrusel Deportivo that Carlo Ancelotti has chosen Andriy Lunin over Thibaut Courtois for their match against Villarreal at El Madrigal tomorrow.

Interestingly, this will be Lunin’s last game of the season, as Courtois is set to play in the UEFA Champions League final against Borussia Dortmund at Wembley on June 1.

Only a week ago, the Real Madrid manager had mentioned that Lunin and Courtois would each play one of the remaining two matches.

“The situation is clear. We have made the decision. In the two remaining games, one will be played by Andriy and the other by Thibaut,” said the manager.

Furthermore, while he did not specify his choice for the Champions League final, he hinted that while Lunin has had a great season, Courtois’ quality is unmatched.

It is to be noted that Courtois missed much of this season due to a cruciate ligament tear and a meniscus injury. During his absence, Chelsea loanee Kepa Arrizabalaga initially took over, but Lunin eventually became the starting goalkeeper.

Since returning, Courtois has played in three La Liga matches, keeping a clean sheet in all of them. Now, Ancelotti faces a tough choice between Lunin, who is in great form, and Courtois, who brings experience and thrives in big games.
