Carlo Ancelotti admits he was left ‘speechless’ by Real Madrid star’s performance vs Atlético | OneFootball

Real Madrid head coach Carlo Ancelotti has admitted that he was left taken aback by the display put forth by Federico Valverde in the club’s latest outing.

Midfielder Valverde, for his part, was back in the thick of things for Real in the Madrid Derby on Tuesday night.

After sitting out each of Los Blancos’ prior three outings owing to a fitness concern, the Uruguayan was again asked to fill in at right-back, amid the ongoing absence of Dani Carvajal.

And to say that Valverde rose to the occasion would be something of an understatement.

The 26-year-old, despite lacking in match fitness, shone on both sides of the ball, laying on an assist for Rodrygo, before coming up with a series of crucial interventions at the other end.

And one individual on whom such excellence was not at all lost is Carlo Ancelotti.

Drawn on the performance put forth by his engine room lynchpin against Atlético, Real Madrid’s headmaster admitted:

“I’m speechless. His effort was huge, really huge once again. He was very tired.”
