Sergio Conceicao only arrived at AC Milan at the end of December, yet he has made his ambitions for the club clear, and they must be mirrored everywhere.
In recent years, the Scudetto success has looked more like a blip than a sign of where Milan really are. Of course, the memories of that year will never be forgotten, but perhaps it was a step too far too early, which raised expectations higher than could be managed.
For a club like the Rossoneri, the Scudetto is always the aim, but its feasibility can be questioned. In the summer, a step forward was expected, but in the first half of the season, the Diavolo have done anything but that.
With Conceicao now through the door, there has been a restart seemingly. Players seem to have a new level of motivation and this showed in the two Supercoppa Italiana games. However, the new coach is demanding more from his team.
Ahead of the Cagliari fixture, Conceicao spoke to the media and his ambitions were made clear again.
How important is it to keep your feet on the ground right now?
“Certainly. I think that those who are satisfied after a Supercoppa cannot work at Milan. We enjoyed it a lot and deserved it, we are 17 points from the top of the table.
“A club that has won 19 Serie A and 7 Champions Leagues cannot be satisfied with a Supercoppa. We must start winning and convincing starting tomorrow to get as high as possible. The Supercoppa is over.”
