The last Bundesliga match against Holstein Kiel on 17 May does not mark the end of the competitive season for the BVB first team. After a two-week holiday, the international players will be on duty with their national teams, while the rest of the Borussia squad will resume training in Dortmund to prepare for the FIFA Club World Cup (14 June - 13 July).
Borussia Dortmund are one of 32 teams taking part in the world championship for club teams, which is being held in this format for the first time. In the group stage of the tournament, which will be held in the USA, Black & Yellows will face Fluminense (17 June, 18:00 CEST), Mamelodi Sundowns (21 June, 18:00 CEST) and Ulsan (25 June, 21:00 CEST). The team will travel to Florida on 13 June, where they will be based in Fort Lauderdale and train at the Inter Miami training ground. From there, the squad will travel to each of the group matches: the first will be played at the MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford (New Jersey), the other two at the TQL Stadium in Cincinnati (Ohio).
Both the timing of the return journey and the start of preparations for the 2025/26 season depend on the team's performance in the tournament. A training camp has already been scheduled in Saalfelden, Austria, which the team will attend from 4 to 9 August. Back in Dortmund, BVB will celebrate the traditional season opener at SIGNAL IDUNA PARK on 10 August. The opponent for the friendly match, which will take place as part of the event, will be announced at a later date. Information on advance ticket sales will also follow.
The first competitive match of the new season will take place in mid-August. The first round of the DFB-Pokal will be played on the weekend of 15 to 18 August 2025. The draw will take place on 15 June.
