FC Barcelona are going to return to UEFA Champions League action tonight as they face Borussia Dortmund in the second leg of the quarter-final tie.
The Catalans won the first leg 4-0, and thus have a place in the semi-finals all but secured. However, they will still have to get the job done tonight, and will also be looking to keep their unbeaten run in 2025 alive.
The Blaugranes are already in Germany ahead of this tie, and as Mundo Deportivo has reported, they faced a rather annoying incident last night, as Borussia Dortmund fans tried to disrupt their sleep by setting off fireworks outside the team’s hotel.
Some fans of the Dortmund side gathered outside the Radisson Blu Hotel, the establishment that is housing the Barcelona team, and set off some crackers and rockets. Their aim was to keep the Blaugrana players awake, and thus, unable to perform at their best level in the match tonight.
Niko Kovac, the head coach of the German side, expressed hopes of his team being able to overturn the impossible situation they find themselves in in this tie, and from the looks of it, the fans were trying to do their part to help their team overcome the 4-goal deficit from the first leg.
There is not much evidence to assess whether this disruption had any effect on the team. It certainly did not seem to impact the Barcelona president, Joan Laporta, much, who was present in the hotel’s lobby at that moment, engaged in a meeting with his directors.
Although this is not the best for optics, such disruptions are frequently undertaken by fans of various clubs to give their own team an advantage when a visiting team has to spend a night in their city. Hopefully, this incident will not have a lot of impact on tonight’s match, and the fans in Dortmund will get to enjoy a high-quality match with two great teams.
