Bayern Munich have stepped up their pursuit of Liverpool winger Luis Diaz by submitting an opening bid worth €52 million, according to BILD (via SPORT).

The Colombian forward, who remains a key target for Barcelona, finds himself at the centre of a potential transfer battle between two European giants.

Diaz is understood to be open to leaving Liverpool this summer, provided the right offer comes in.

While the English club have so far blocked all movements, Liverpool are reportedly aware of the player’s openness to a new challenge. That has encouraged Bayern to move quickly.

Bayern Munich make the first move

The German champions have made their first official proposal, but their initial offer falls short of Liverpool’s valuation. The Merseyside club are believed to be holding out for a figure in the region of €80 million.

While Bayern’s bid includes performance-related bonuses that could bring the deal closer to that figure, no agreement has yet been reached.

Sporting director Max Eberl is said to have held new discussions with Diaz’s camp in recent days. The talks indicate that Bayern are serious about the deal, though the complexity of the negotiations remains a hurdle.

Where is Barcelona?

Barcelona, for their part, continue to monitor Diaz’s situation closely, as Deco still has the Liverpool man listed as their top attacking priority.

However, with the Catalan side currently unable to compete financially with Bayern’s offer, their position in the race is weakened.

It is worth noting that Diaz’s contract at Liverpool runs until 2027, and he is not considered a player up for sale.

Still, reports from Germany suggest there could be a verbal understanding in place with the Bavarians, allowing him to leave if a bid exceeding €80 million is made.

While Barcelona remain hopeful, if the Diaz pursuit fails to materialise, the club is also exploring alternatives and one name under serious consideration is Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford.
