Harry Kane’s failure to win major silverware during his career has triggered plenty of debate about his place in the football pecking order.
His goalscoring exploits failed to help Tottenham Hotspur break their trophy drought, and the trend continued after he joined Bayern Munich in 2023.
Kane scored 44 goals in 45 appearances in all competitions for Bayern last season, but the club ultimately ended up empty-handed.
He has continued in the same vein this season, bagging 22 goals in the Bundesliga and another 10 in Bayern’s run to the Champions League quarter-finals.
Bayern have a six-point lead over reigning German champions Bayer Leverkusen with seven games remaining. The title is in their grasp.
While breaking his silverware duck would undoubtedly be a relief for Kane, his critics will likely argue it does little to change the narrative around him.
Bayern’s vast financial resources make them overwhelming favourites to win the Bundesliga title every season.
Leverkusen stopped Bayern from winning their 12th consecutive title last term, highlighting how dominant they have been in the Bundesliga.
With that in mind, if the German giants win the Champions League this season, it would change the narrative around Kane.
His detractors may argue that winning the Bundesliga matters little in the grand scheme of things, but success in the Champions League would be a game-changer.
The England captain has a golden opportunity over the next couple of months to change how he is perceived.
Two trophies would cement his status as a modern-day great. If Bayern come up short in the Champions League, Kane will continue to be questioned.
