For the first time since their promotion to Germany’s topflight in 2016, RB Leipzig will not compete in any European competition next season. Given their short existence in the Bundesliga this might seem acceptable, but the club from Saxony hold themselves to the highest standard and will be dissatisfied with their efforts this campaign.

One player who did his level best to fulfil those ambitions was Benjamin Šeško. The Slovenian striker can only be described as having Erling Halaand-esque qualities. With a powerful physique, exquisite technical skills and top end speed to escape the attentions of opposition defenders, Šeško dropped jaws across the Bundesliga all season long.

It's almost hard to believe he is still a 21-year-old at times given how he plays like a battle-hardened professional. With 13 goals and 5 assists in 33 outings, Šeško delivered his best season to date for Die Roten Bullen. Fans of the club will be hoping they can retain his services for the next campaign, but it’s already clear that Premier League sides are willing to go all-out for the multifaceted marksman.

STANDOUT PERFORMANCE:

Benjamin Šeško best demonstrated his world-class abilities on Matchday 5 as Leipzig steamrolled their way to a 4-0 victory over FC Augsburg. Then under the tutelage of Marco Rose, Šeško opened the scoring in remarkable fashion as he collected Openda’s flicked pass and took a touch before thrashing it into the lower left corner from 25-yards.

The 21-year-old offered his aerial prowess on 15 minutes to secure the brace as he rose highest to direct David Raum’s cross beyond Labrovic. Loïs Openda chipped in with the third of the afternoon before Šeško turned provider for Leipzig’s fourth and final goal. A deft flick directed the ball to Xavi Simons at the back post to thump home on the half-volley.

HONOURABLE MENTIONS:

Two very worthy votes fell the way of Peter Gulacsi who made the most saves (109) and achieved the most clean sheets (14) of any Bundesliga goalkeeper this season. When you mention RB Leipzig it’s hard not to talk about Xavi Simons, who despite an injury-hit season, still managed to deliver in the attacking third with 10 goals and 7 assists. However, the Netherlands youngster could be yet another big name to move on from the club this summer.
