Mbeumo departs Brentford after six successful years in west London

Mbeumo became Man United’s second major signing of the summer transfer window on Monday night as Ruben Amorim continues an overhaul of the attack.

United had seen two opening bids for the Cameroon international rejected by the Bees, but their third offer that could eventually be worth £71million was accepted.

The fee is understood to be worth an initial £65m, which will be paid in instalments and the deal could rise by a further £6m due to add-ons.

Standard Sport understands that around £1.5m of the add-ons are based on the number of appearances Mbeumo makes for United, with the majority related to the team’s success in winning major trophies.

The fee is a club-record sale for Brentford, surpassing Ivan Toney’s £40m move to Saudi Pro League side Al-Ahli last year.

Giles has thanked Mbeumo for his services having spent six years in west London, scoring 70 goals and weighing in with 51 assists in 242 games across all competitions.

“On behalf of everyone at Brentford, I would like to wish Bryan all the best for the future and thank him for his fantastic efforts over six seasons with us," said Giles.

“Bryan came to us as a teenager, and it has been an absolute pleasure for all of us here to watch him develop as a player and a person. Our fans have loved him, and he has been a part of some of our greatest days.

“There is always a right time for a player to move on and, for Bryan, that time is now. He has the opportunity to go to one of the biggest clubs in the world, and we are very happy for him.

“Bryan will always be welcome back at the Gtech. We look forward to seeing him in September and whenever our paths cross in the future.”
