England internationals Conor Gallagher and Eddie Nketiah are subject of interest from abroad, with Atletico Madrid and Marseille chasing deals for the duo respectively.

Talks between Chelsea and Atletico Madrid over Gallagher have accelerated this week, while Marseille have submitted a second offer for Arsenal’s Nketiah.

The latter could opt for a new challenge overseas after struggling for status in North London and could become Marseille’s second English signing of the summer after a deal was completed for Mason Greenwood.

The trio are not the only Brits heading for foreign leagues, however, and we’ve picked out five to have made transfers abroad this summer.

Ben Godfrey – Everton to Atalanta

Ben Godfrey’s transfer to Atalanta is one of the surprise deals of the summer so far, with the defender signing for the Europa League winners as Everton sought to remain compliant with Premier League Profit and Sustainability rules.

The 26-year-old struggled for regular first-team football across the last two seasons and started just 13 league games in 2023-24 for Sean Dyche’s side.

Next season, Godfrey will take to the Champions League stage after a £10m move to Italy, where he will join Tammy Abraham, Fikayo Tomori, Lewis Ferguson and Ruben Loftus-Cheek among the British contingent in Serie A.

Everton have replaced Godfrey with the £17m signing of Ireland international Jake O’Brien from Lyon.

Omari Forson – Manchester United to Monza

Omari Forson felt his development was best served away from Manchester United, after turning down a new contract to sign for Monza on a free transfer.

The 20-year-old, who joined Manchester United from Tottenham as a teenager, made seven senior appearances in 2023-24 and provided the assist for Kobbie Mainoo’s late winner at Wolves on his Premier League debut.

The England u-20 international links up with a Monza side under the management of AC Milan and Italy icon Alessandro Nesta.

Che Adams – Southampton to Torino

In another England-to-Italy transfer, Che Adams snubbed a new deal with newly-promoted Southampton in favour of a free transfer to Torino.

Adams was linked with a host of Premier League clubs before deciding on a new venture, with a Torino side that finished ninth in Serie A last season.

The Scotland international will hope to build on a strong season in England’s second tier that saw Adams score 17 goals in all competitions.

Oli McBurnie – Sheffield United to Las Palmas

If there was an award for the most random transfer of the summer so far, this might win it.

The Scottish striker has swapped the Steel City for Gran Canaria, after signing for Las Palmas as a free agent.

McBurnie turned down the chance to extend his stay with Sheffield United after Premier League relegation last season and will instead take his talents to La Liga, for a Las Palmas team who narrowly avoided relegation in 2023-24.

Only two forwards won more aerial duels than the combative McBurnie in the Premier League last season (110), while no player received more red cards (2).

Jonathan Panzo – Nottingham Forest to Rio Ave (loan)

It can be easy to forget that Jonathan Panzo is still a Nottingham Forest player. Signed from Dijon two-and-a-half years ago, the defender has made just one league appearance for the club.

The last two seasons have been spent on loan at Coventry City, Cardiff and Belgium’s Standard Liege, before another loan arrangement was finalised for 2024-25. The next stop on Panzo’s tour of temporary deals will be Portugal, with the centre-back signing for Rio Ave ahead of the upcoming campaign.
