Tottenham travel to the South Coast this Sunday to face a Brighton side that will be looking to recover from their first defeat of the season last weekend.

Spurs are on the road for the third successive game, with a 3-0 win at Manchester United preceding a hard-fought victory over win over Hungarian outfit Ferencvaros in the Europa League.

Brighton manager Fabian Hurzeler has a long injury list to manage with eight senior players currently unable to feature.

Defenders Joel Veltman and Jan Paul van Hecke continue to recover from their respective issues and the likes of Matt O’Riley, James Milner, Joao Pedro and Solly March remain on the sidelines.

Spurs captain Heung-min Son looks set to be unavailable after he was withdrawn from South Korea’s squad for the upcoming international fixtures, whilst Richarlison and Wilson Odobert will remain on the sidelines until after the break.

Form

Brighton: DDWDL

Brighton’s defensive frailties reared their ugly head at Chelsea last weekend, as Cole Palmer tore their backline apart with a four-goal onslaught.

It is the first time during Fabian Hurzeler’s tenure that the Seagulls have looked truly vulnerable at the back, with individual mistakes costing them dearly.

The loss was their first under the German and followed three consecutive draws in the Premier League.

The 31-year-old is still trying to put his tactical stamp on the Seagulls and that process comes with its own unique set of challenges and inconsistencies.

Tottenham: WWWWW

Following a shaky start to the campaign, Tottenham have restored the belief in their fans that they are progressing under Ange Postecoglou with five straight wins.

With a starting eleven that included four teenagers, Spurs edged out Ferencvaros in Budapest on Thursday night to make it maximum points from their two Europa League matches.

Brennan Johnson is currently enjoying a superb run of form with the 23-year-old having scored in five consecutive games.

Summer signing Dominic Solanke has also entered a rich vein of form, which has been recognised by Lee Carsley, who has included the striker in his squad for England’s upcoming Nations League fixtures.

You have to go back to 2017 to find the last time the 27-year-old was included in a Three Lions squad.

Last Meeting: Tottenham 2-1 Brighton, Premier League, 10th February 2024

A 96th-minute winner from Brennan Johnson snatched the three points for Spurs the last time the two sides met.

The Seagulls dominated the opening exchanges and took a deserved lead as Pascal Gross converted a spot kick.

But the hosts grew into the game and found an equaliser just past the hour mark with Pape Matar Sarr finishing from an acute angle.

After Ansu Fati spurned a glorious opportunity to put Brighton back in front, their opponents made sure they would regret their missed chances.

In the dying embers of the contest, second-half substitute Heung-min Son drilled a searching ball to the back post which was met with force by the onrushing Johnson to break Brighton hearts.
