Brighton 'in advanced talks' for Inter Miami midfielder

Brighton are on the brink of securing a new midfielder from Major League Soccer side Inter Miami.

According to Tom Bogert and the BBC, the two clubs are in advanced talks for 21-year-old Diego Gómez worth up to $18 million (€17 million).

Gómez has made 12 appearances for Inter Miami so far this season, registering three goals and three assists. He is now “pushing for a move” to England as the Seagulls begin their negotiations.

“My agent is speaking to Inter Miami and Brighton and Hove Albion, I came here to jump to Europe,” Gomez told Deporte Total USA on Wednesday. “I hope it happens and whatever God wants.”

If the deal goes through, Gómez will remain with the MLS side until winter.

He also has seven caps for the Paraguay national team and will participate in the Olympics later this month. West Ham were another club reportedly interested in the midfielder’s talents.
