Stade Brestois are preparing for life without first-choice goalkeeper Marco Bizot (33), while also aiming to add new faces later this month.
The Dutch shot-stopper under contract with the Breton side until 2026 has not been able to replicate his success between the sticks from the 2023-24 campaign.
He was an integral part of their third-place finish and qualification for the Champions League a season ago, registering 13 clean sheets in Ligue 1. His form has dropped over this campaign, however, boasting a save percentage of only 56% domestically, with Brest conceding 30 goals after 17 Ligue 1 affairs.
In the UEFA Champions League, he has collected two clean sheets, helping them win 1-0 over PSV in December which officially booked them a place in the knockout stage.
Bizot joined Brest in 2021 from AZ Alkmaar in the Dutch Eredivisie, while he’s earned two call-ups with one appearance for the Netherlands national team.
Originally, Bizot came to Brest on a three-year contract for a reported fee of €1m. The Dutchman is not being forced towards the exit, rather his departure is being anticipated in the event of interest in the goalkeeper.
Goalkeeping is not the only position the club hopes to address, with L’Équipe also reporting that they are on the hunt for a left-back and a midfielder during this current window.
Manager Éric Roy recently appeared on the RMC Mercato Show this week, and although he didn’t reveal who might be joining the club, he said that a left-back will arrive soon.
Les Pirates have incurred numerous key injuries this season, with Pierre Lees-Melou (31), among them, having only recently returned from the injury front this week in their Coupe de France triumph over FC Nantes (2-1).
Mahamadou Diawara (19) was among the midfielders on the club’s radar, though he wound up being loaned to Le Havre AC instead from Olympique Lyonnais.
Brest’s backup keeper is Grégoire Courdet (25), who started between the sticks in their two Coupe de France fixtures this season.
