Brentford B took all three points in the lunchtime kick-off at Wheatsheaf Park on Saturday afternoon, beating Bournemouth in the Premier League Cup 2-1.

Attackers Iwan Morgan and Ashley Hay both got on the scoresheet as their first-half goals were enough to secure the victory.

Neil MacFarlane’s side knew that a win was important to their slim chances of finishing Group I top of the tree.

Prior to kick-off a minute’s silence was observed due to it being Remembrance weekend.

Brentford settled the quicker of the two sides, exhibiting some of the fine play that has seen them win four league games on the bounce.

The first 10 minutes of the game flew by without either side having a shot to test the goalkeeper’s, however the B team remained the side in control of possession.

Kian Tydeman had the away side’s first chance as the winger flashed a shot across the face of goal, which whistled past Julian Eytestone’s right-hand post.

The Bees took the lead through Iwan Morgan as the attacker found himself in a great spot to receive a loose ball in the box, volleying past the goalkeeper.

Tydeman was proving to be the danger man and he went close, chipping Eyestone from inside the box, but the shot just went over the bar.

Hay went close to adding to his recent scoring spree, powering a header goalwards which Harold Williams cleared off the line.

The lead was doubled and it was the man in form Ashley Hay who capitalised on the ball falling kindly to him in the box, volleying into the roof of the net.

Hay could have made it three just after the half-time whistle but his shot off balance was swatted away by Callum McKenna.

With 20 minutes to go, Eyestone was called into action as he made a good stop to deny Remy Rees-Dottin who did well to beat his man and get a shot away.

The Cherries halved the deficit though as Jonny Stuttle powered an effort past Eyestone, finding the bottom corner.

Bournemouth continued to push for an equaliser as they had a sustained period of possession.

Eyestone made a massive save to deny Ash Clarke from close range in the second-half stoppage time.

That was how the game would end as the Bees registered their first three points of Group I, keeping their knockout stage aspirations alive.

The under-21s are back in action on Monday 18 November as they take on Swansea City Under-21s away from home in the Professional Development League.
