Mykhailo Mudryk has finally been charged by the Football Association for doping offences, with the winger now likely to face a multiple year ban, Matt Law has reported exclusively for the Daily Telegraph.

The winger could be banned for as long as 4 years after his “A” sample taken after a game for Ukraine last year tested positive for Meldonium. Mudryk has been provisionally banned ever since, awaiting the results of the “B” sample, which has presumably returned a positive too.
The Telegraph quote an FA spokesperson, who said “We can confirm that Mykhailo Mudryk has been charged with Anti-Doping Rule Violations alleging the presence and/or use of a prohibited substance, in terms of Regulations 3 and 4 of The FA’s Anti-Doping Regulation.”
Mudryk continues to deny knowingly breaking any rules, and will hope for some mitigating circumstances to reduce any ban he’s given.
While it’s dreadful news for Chelsea, there is at least some clarity after 9 months of nothing. The Blues paid a vast amount of money for the former Shakhtar winger, and there is some suggestion they could rip up his contract.
In all honesty, this doesn’t change a huge amount in terms of Chelsea’s squad planning. Mudryk had rapidly fallen down the pecking order since arriving at the club, and a ban always looked likely since he tested positive late last year.
That’s meant Chelsea moving on without him – our top remaining position target for this summer was looking likely to be a left winger regardless of this news. Jamie Gittens of Borussia Dortmund has been linked consistently, and we expect that chase to step up after the Club World Cup finishes.
